Govs show of support to PGMA. Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo receives an overwhelming reaffirmation of support from all the governors, led by LPP national president Loreto Leo S. Ocampos and national chairman LRay F. Villafuerte Jr., who attended the 2nd General Assembly of the LPP in Pili, Camarines Sur.

Govs call on Senate to stop NBN probe, on political opposition to wait for their turn in 2010

Notwithstanding the political noise created over the Jun Lozada brouhaha, Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo still has a steadfast ally in the local government officials who once more called on the Senate to desist from its ongoing NBN probe and the political opposition to wait for their turn to present their own agenda and programs to the people during the 2010 elections. At the 2nd General Assembly of the League of Provinces of the Philippines, last February 13, the governors collectively approved the manifesto reiterating their unwavering and wholehearted support to the leadership of Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and her administration.

The governors presented the manifesto to the president herself when she graced the LPP assembly held in Pili, Camarines Sur, as the guest of honor and keynote speaker.

Aside from reiterating their support for the president, the provincial chief executives likewise called on all sectors of society to resist all unconstitutional means to disrupt the socio-political reforms being undertaken by the Arroyo administration in order to uplift the quality of life of the Filipinos.

The manifesto, proposed by Davao del Norte Gov. Rodolfo P. del Rosario, called on the Senate to desist from its on-going inquiry into the NBN deal in aid of legislation because the matter is already being investigated by the Office of the Ombudsman and the Department of Justice.

Moreover, “the disruptions in the media brought about by old and tired issues unduly undermine the economic gains the nation has been enjoying for the last seven years,” the governors said.

The league collectively pointed out that the Moody’s Investors Service has already raised its credit rating of the Philippines from “stable” to “positive” and reaffirmed international business confidence in the Philippines, and the strong peso and the correct economic fundamentals instituted by Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo have shielded the Philippines from the backlash of an economic slowdown or possible recession in the United States of America.

Meanwhile, the LPP has taken the lead in organizing a Forum on the Advancement of Democracy and Economic Growth to be conducted simultaneously in all of the provinces on 22 February 2008.

The forum’s objectives are: (1) to express the LGUs’ all-out and unwavering support for Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and her administration; (2) to highlight the unprecedented economic growth of the country under the able leadership of PGMA; (3) To unite all sectors of society to move forward and ride on the country’s economic progress, rather than paying attention to worthless political squabbling and power struggle.

Fourth is to focus at sustaining the present economic stability of the country for the good of the Filipino people; (5) to make an earnest appeal to the national politicians to refrain from using the ‘LOZADA ISSUE’ as a vehicle to attract public attention and advance political ambition; (6) to submit the truth of the LOZADA ISSUE in the courts of law and not in the arena of media and public opinion. (7) to enlighten the local community on the real and true issue surrounding the LOZADA ZTE-NBN controversy.(Angelica Sanchez)
